Akron Children’s Hospital, in collaboration with the State Support Team Region 8 and Summit ESC is offering a free comprehensive training to school districts. This train-the-trainer is designed to help schools better understand how students experience traumatic events and how to help them through this challenging time.
Session 1: October 5, 2020
Incarcerating Families
This component discusses the impact of incarceration from arrest to visitation through release and re-entry to the family.
Juvenile Incarceration
In this session we discuss the prevalence of juvenile incarceration, the emotional implications, as well as the interruption to academic success for these children.
Session 2: October 6, 2020
An Introduction to Restorative Justice
This session introduces the concept of the school to prison pipeline, the historic effects of “no tolerance” policies, as well as an introduction in restorative justice and practices.
Classroom Restorative Practices in Action
This session provides practical tools that educators and other school staff can use to turn classroom discipline from just punitive to positive learning opportunities.
