To best combat chronic absenteeism, involve the families. “Easier said, than done.” Relationships between schools and families has tremendously changed during the past decade. Communication is instantaneous, yet easily misunderstood. Time is precious, and limited when focusing on items that mean the most. In this session, participants will look at absenteeism through the lens of family engagement. Participants will learn root causes of drops in family engagement, and learn ways to strengthen family and student voice in order to decrease absenteeism.
